Our Application Process

At Echelon Scholars, we focus exclusively on the extremely ambitious goal of postgraduate-level, peer-reviewed publication for our high school students.

Furthermore, we are proud to have maintained a 100% success rate after working with many dozens of students.

This selectivity begins during the admissions process, and we uphold the highest of standards.

Application

Echelon runs a highly competitive application cycle, with only a select number being chosen to participate. Our application covers a variety of carefully selected personal and academic questions, to help us assess potential eligibility.

Interview

Our team of published researchers and experienced professionals will extend interview offers to students who stood out in the application round. A live virtual interview will be set up, giving both parties an opportunity to ask further questions.

decision

Rather than simply matching you with a professor or graduate student for a limited number of meetings like mass-marketed programs do, our research program pairs you with a mentor who will work by your side to guide you to publication success.

Foundations of Success

Effort & Integrity

Research is a difficult field that is typically not a straight line to success. Parts of the process may take only a week, while others that involve learning the specifics behind an experiment can require up to a month. By ensuring you meet with your mentor weekly, dedicating effort to the weekly deliverables and homework, and working with integrity, you will help us maximize your chances.

Willingness to Learn

Teachability and openness are also essential. Because our program is longer than average and covers material that differs greatly from what students typically see in school, participants are constantly exposed to new ideas and approaches. Many of these concepts may feel unfamiliar at first, but with curiosity and persistence, students adapt quickly. It is this openness to learning, rather than prior expertise, that enables them to grow and succeed.

Internal Motivation

The single most important thing we are looking for is motivation. We’ve had students publish computer science projects without ever coding, and we’ve had students publish in applied math without any formal previous research experience. Due to the unlimited hour nature of our program, we truly believe we can guide any motivated student to success, including publication.
